When those hunger pangs strike before bedtime, why not reach out for a smoothie? And if you are having trouble sleeping, this particular recipe is a good option.
Having a heavy meal before bedtime will make you uncomfortable, make it hard for your digestive system and not help you sleep. That’s why a light smoothie is the best option.
This recipe contains banana and almond milk which feature sleep inducing nutrients. Bananas, almond milk and oats can help relax your muscles. It also contains kiwi fruit which contains antioxidants and promotes seratonin in the body, helping with sleep.
The smoothie is sweetened further with dates. Dates contain potassium, magnesium and calcium which are great for sleep. Calcium processes tryptophan and melatonin, hormones that are natural sedatives. Magnesium helps to relax muscles and potassium helps to keep you asleep throughout the night. Naturally sweetening your smoothies is much healthier than adding ingredients like sweetened yoghurt or ice cream. You don’t want that nasty processed sugar.
