This celery and apple green juice is packed with nutrients and tastes great. It has passed the ultimate taste-test – the kids taste-test. My kids don’t normally eat greens despite my efforts, so this is a great way to get nutrients into their growing bodies and they love it.

It’s jam-packed full of vitamin C which is great for your health overall and anti-ageing. Vitamin c promotes the production of collagen which is needed for connective tissue in various systems of the body. You lose collagen in the skin as you age, so supplying your body the nutrients it needs to produce it is important.

Vitamin c also helps to make several hormones. It is water soluble, which means it’s not stored in the body. You need to consume it regularly. Since your body doesn’t store it, it’s hard to over-dose on vitamin c.

If you are low in Iron, Vitamin c is important as it helps to absorb it. So ensure you’re getting enough vitamin c on a daily basis to help your body absorb the iron you consume. Research

Celery stalks

I generally start off making this green juice by cleaning my celery stalks. It can be challenging washing the dirt out from in between the ridges but a brush can fix that. I tend to use just the celery stalk and not the leaves as I find that the leaves can add a bitter taste to the juice. Tip: save your celery leaves for a celery soup or such dish. Celery stalks are great to juice because they’re full of water and can really fill up that jug quickly. In this recipe, celery and apple are the base ingredients.

Cleaning celery with brush works well to remove dirt from in between ridges.

Nutrients in celery

Celery has gained popularity in recent years and is known to be a great for detox. The medical medium Anthony William helped bring celery into the spotlight when he started sharing about the health benefits of drinking celery juice in an empty stomach.

Celery is known to help in lowering cholesterol and blood pressure. Celery is high in vitamin C, vitamin A, potassium and phytonutrients which are anti-inflammatory and antioxidants.

Fennel juice and it’s health benefits

This juice contains a fair amount of fennel. The thing I love about it is that the kids wouldn’t normally eat fennel any other way. I don’t normally cook fennel, but it tastes amazing in the juice giving a hint of that signature licorice flavor.

Like celery, fennel is high in vitamin C and potassium. It’s also a good antioxidant and can reduce inflammation. Other nutrients it contains include manganese, iron, calcium and magnesium.

Kate, cucumber and apples

Apples form a large part of this recipe and give it it’s sweet flavor. You’ve heard the saying, ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away.’ I don’t need to tell you that apples are super healthy for you. You need to be mindful that juice contains very little fiber and fiber slows down sugar absorption. If you have diabetes, or another sugar related disorder such as hypoglycemia, you need to be mindful of the amount you consume. It can be high in sugar. If you want to reduce the level of sugar in this recipe, just reduce the proportion of apples and increase the proportion of celery or cucumber.

Kale is a super food and this is the only chance I have at getting this into the bellies of my children. Add as much as you like, but I tend to remove the stem as it gives the juice a bitter flavor. The stem is super healthy so you may want to cook it as part of a soup or use it another way.

Cucumber is full of water and is healthy too. It adds a fresh taste to the juice and is high in vitamin k which regulates calcium levels, helps to build bones and is needed for blood clotting.
